On Wednesday I am giving a presentation about the advantages of modern web technologies. I will be going into the history of legacy technologies like SGML and Postscript and draw the path which leads to HTML, XML and now XHTML. I will demostrate how CSS, Javascript/DOM and XSL also fit into the mix. I will also contrast these open standards to closed proprietary alternatives as well as demonstrate the cost benefits. The history will provide a context for where we are now and how to plan for the future to minimize the costs associated with staying current.
