I kinda like my crappy cellphone

February 2nd, 2005

I switched away from SprintPCS to Verizon Wireless and got one of those fancy LG flip camera phones a few months ago. I liked the novelty of having the camera flip phone, but my feeling about it changed. Over a few weeks I was more and more annoyed with having to flip open the phone to punch the buttons all the time. And the camera only takes half decent photos in perfect conditions. Any photos taken while out drinking with friends is impossible. The fancy new phone was not free, but it should have been.

Then I lost the phone. I went to a really, really cold Packers football game up at Lambeau Field and towards the end of the day when I had thought I put the phone in my pocket I must have just dropped it. I never got it back so I ordered a cheap, out-dated and refurbished phone through Verizon for $16. It is a simple little phone with a duotone display and pretty much no other features. I have had it for about a month now and as I learn how to use the few features it has I am finding they simply work, no real major problems.

Last week I even started to use text messaging and now I am hooked. I may need to expand my plan to include more text messaging now. The little joystick was initially difficult to use but now I am fairly skilled with using it to navigate the menus.

I did consider getting a new LG phone again after the holidays, but maybe I will just keep my eye on eBay for a funky retro phone. For now this one is alright.

I agree. I have to have one of the oldest phones on the planet. Everytime I think about going and upgrading all I see are all these phones that do everything under the sun. Why can't I just get a phone? I already have a camera that takes great pics. I can understand PDA phones since it would be nice to have all your contacts in one place, but I still wont pay the price.
