Now on iTunes: Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis
August 21st, 2006This is really great news. This week iTunes is now carrying Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis in addition to my other favorite shows like Battlestar Galactica and Lost. You can purchase a season pass for $37.99 for each of the Stargate shows. That comes out to about $2 a show which I think is more than fair. So what would it cost if I were to tally up all the shows I like to watch?
- Stargate SG-1 ($37.99)
- Stargate Atlantis (37.99)
- BattleStar Galactica ($25.99)
- Lost ($34.99)
- Daily Show ($9.99 for 10 shows)
- The Colbert Report ($9.99 for 16 shows)
- Comedy Central Stand-up ($79.60 for 40 episodes)
- 24 ($42.99)
That looks like it adds up quickly. Up to $279.53 to be exact. And I would want many more episodes of Daily Show and The Colbert Report. So you can easily tack on another $40.00 and make it $319.53. And since iTunes does not include those great home shows on HGTV that I like the iTunes-only approach does not really match up to cable yet. The low end for cable in my area is $51.99 which is $623.99 for 12 months. Add the DVR option for $5.99 a month and it comes to $695.87.
What does that mean? Well, if I could watch just a bit less TV I could save a chunk of change. At least with iTunes it is a cafeteria plan instead of all or nothing.
