Visual Studio Tip #1: Close Tabs Quickly

September 15th, 2006

I recently learned there is a faster way to close tabs than right-clicking and selecting close. You can simply click the middle button on your mouse. On a typical scrolling mouse the clickable scroller is the middle button. The click immediately closes the tab.

I also found that this works with the new IE7 tabs and other places which use tabs.

Cool - thanks :) One note: you have to middle-click on the actual tab. I still favor Ctrl+F4 but this is nice :)

I never liked stretching my fingers across the keyboad to do Ctrl+F4. I think Ctrl+Dekete would be an easier key combo. The feature I tried to configure was Build and Rebuild from the mouse. I have a fancy Microsoft trackball mouse with a few extra buttons but was unable to map those buttons to the build actions despite that feature being a part of Visual Studio.
