Release Day: Visual Studio 2005 SP1 and ASP.NET AJAX 1.0 RC
December 15th, 2006Just in time for the weekend, Microsoft has released the long awaited service pack for Visual Studio 2005 as well as the release candidate for the much touted AJAX solution.
It appears that the update to SP1 will take a while to run the upgrade process, so set aside some time to do that. I plan to wait on that a moment as the hot fixes are working well enough for me.
As for the AJAX solution, you must install ASP.NET AJAX 1.0 before the ASP.NET AJAX Control Toolkit. Read those install instructions carefully. I have seen plenty of people having trouble with not finding the assemblies for new AJAX web projects. Also be sure to have all instances of Visual Studio closed down because it saves out the configuration state during shutdown. If you install something while Visual Studio is running you will lose the configuration changes when it is shut down.
I am downloading the files, but I plan to wait a little while before installing anything. I would like to let a few others jump first so I can read about any gotchas they come across. I also have another 1gb memory module on the way to finally bring this machine up to 2gb. Until then, I will keep my eyes on the blogs for the early adopter experiences.
