Qdoba Got Healthier?

I was critical of Qdoba last year when I wrote about the Cheese Burger Diet. My brother told me there is a radio commercial where Qdoba implies that the food at Qdoba is much more healthy than their competitors. I had to give it another look.

It does seem that they knocked off a lot of the calories. The Nutritional Calculator is much more detailed now. It is still over 1000 calories, but at least it is not 1600 like before. Even if I add a few more optional items to the burrito it is still not up to 1600 calories.

To find the nutritional information I had to Google it since they do not have a direct link from the main page of the website. I guess they still feel they should hide their nutritional facts even though they tout them as reason to eat in their restaurant over their competitors.

One clear competitor new to town is Chipotle Mexican Grille and they do not have nutritional information on the website. I did find an unofficial website to calculate the nutrional details. I plugged in a basic chicken burrito with cheese and it comes out to 909 calories. Perhaps the implied claims from Qdoba are not true for this competitor. And I am certain the cheese burgers at Culver's are not 1000 calories. I wonder which competitors they are talking about.

I have since stopped eating there and have now either started cooking more meals at home or I have been going to Culvers to get a Double Cheeseburger. This morning I looked up the nutritional information and once again I was surprised...

Super Size Me

Monday, May 24th, 2004

This weekend I went to The Oriental Theatre to see Super Size Me. It is a great documentary packed full of facts about the fast food industry and the affects it has on the people who eat all of that nasty food. I recommend the movie for everyone, especially kids in gradeschool and above. There is so much I learned from the movie, but much that it did not cover what I already knew...
